While in Saigon to manage construction contracts to Vietnamese construction contractors in 1972, I worked with a company called VIHICO to build a large storm drainage tunnel two or three kilometers long/Lúc ở Sài Gòn năm 1972 , tôi có nhiệm vụ quản lý các công trình xây dựng với nhà thầu VN ; tôi đã làm việc với một cty tên là VIHICO để xây một cống thoát nước lớn dài từ 2-3 km .

The project was called Vo Thanh Drain, which might have been for the name of the street that was dug up during construction and then restored/Dự án này được gọi là Thoát Nước Võ Tánh , lấy theo tên đường bị đào để đặt ống thoát nước .
As near as I can tell, that street is now called Phan Dăng Lưu Phan Xích Long, and I live just 50 meters away from it now in Quận (District) Phú Nhuận of Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh/Đường này nay có tên là Phan Đăng Lưu/Phan Xích Long , và tôi sống cách đó 50 m , nay là quận Phú Nhuận .
At the beginning of the tunnel at the intersection with Hai Bà Trưng Phan Đăng Lưu Street, the cross section of the tunnel is about four meters square/Đầu đường ống nằm ngay ngả tư Hai Bà Trưng và Phan Đăng Lưu , thiết diện ống khoảng 4 m2 .

As the tunnel neared its outfall (close to present-day Dinh Tiên Hoàng Street), it flattened out to a section about 10 meters wide and 3 meters high/Khi cống sắp tới của cống (outfall) (gần nơi bây giờ là đường Đinh Tiên Hoàng) , cống bị làm dẹp , chỉ có chiều cao khoảng 3 m với bề ngang là 10m .
The outfall drained into an area of wet fields growing dinner greens/Nước thoát xuống một khu vực trồng rau muống .
That area now looks like this, around the new University of Fine Arts Building on Phan Dang Luu/Khu này bây giờ như vầy , chung quanh tòa nhà của ĐH Mỹ Nghệ tại đường Phan Đăng Lưu .
