Most Windows users know how to use alt-tab to cycle through open apps and files but if you have Windows Aero running try pressing the windows key along with the ctrl and tab key and you’ll see a neat display on your desktop that you can use the arrow keys to cycle through. Use the esc key to exit this mode.

Five Fun and Useful Things to do with Siri
Siri gets quite a lot of flack for her many imperfections, which is a bit unfair considering the program is still in Beta. Here are some tips and tricks on how to get more out of Siri or just have more fun using it.

Tell Siri About Your Family
To increase Siri's usability you can introduce her to your family. This means that when you say things like, “Remind me to call my sister”, or “On Tuesday at 1pm I'm having lunch with dad” she will know who you're talking about.
You can do this in two ways – either tell her verbally “Darth Vader is my father” and she will link the two, or you can go in and edit the contact directly, assigning nicknames.

Lots of Verbal Options

One configuration you can choose, is to have Siri fire up automatically when you bring the phone to your ear. This gives you some clever options. When the keyboard is visible – showing the microphone icon – you can raise the phone up to your ear and, after hearing the beep, speak. Siri will take your speech input and convert it to text. For example, when you get a text message, just tap inside the reply box, and speak into the phone. Be sure to enunciate so Siri gets the words correctly, and you're good to go. This set-up will also let you search for apps by voice. It requires a couple of button presses, but it’s quick nonetheless. Just press the home button, either once or twice, to bring up Spotlight and speak the name of the app you’re searching for, then tap the app in the search results list and you’re done.
Second Chances
The option of fixing what you said, or correcting Siri's interpretation of your speech, is always available. Just tap the talk bubble that represents what you said. When you do, the bubble turns white and the keyboard appears. This allows you to type directly into the bubble. You can edit your request directly or tap the microphone button on the keyboard to re-dictate your request. Tap Done to finish. Sometimes Siri's dictation processor will add a blue line under a word in the text you have spoken. When you tap that word, you will be presented with alternative interpretations of your speech. Select the correction you'd like to use, or edit/dictate a replacement.
Before you send a text on its way, you can have Siri read it back to you. Say "Read it to me" or "Read it back to me." When you are satisfied with your text or email message, you can say “Send it", and Siri will do so.
My Name is Inigo Montoya
You may have noticed that sometimes Siri refers to you by name during some of your conversations. If you have a nickname you prefer, or if you just have a quirky sense of humor, you can tell Siri “Call me Professor Xavier”.
Siri's Love Affair with Wolfram Alpha
If you're unfamiliar with Wolfram Alpha don't worry, it's not a new Twilight character. Wolfram Alpha is an online answer-engine. Unlike a search engine that proves a list of web pages to answer questions, it answers factual queries directly by computing the answer from structured data. Siri is set to utilize Wolfram Alpha's crazy awesome databases, just say the word “Wolfram” (pronounced “Wolf-rum”) before your question. Here are some good ones:
  1. Create unique strong passwords with the command: “Wolfram password” and Siri will give you an 8-character password.
  2. Roll a random number: "Wolfram, random integer" and Siri returns a random value between 0 and 1000. "Wolfram, random number" provides a 0 to 1 floating point value.
  3. Nature facts: "Wolfram, what is the air speed velocity of an unladen swallow?” Unlike a lot of men, Wolfram has no problem admitting if it doesn't know the answer: “There is unfortunately insufficient data to estimate the velocity of an African swallow (even if you specified which of the 47 species of swallow found in Africa you meant).”
  4. Convert text to Morse code (hey, you never know when you may need Morse code): "Wolfram, what is Morse code for 'I'm trapped in a movie theater watching Twilight"
  5. Keep your girlish figure: "Wolfram, how many calories in a latte?"
  6. Cheat at Poker: "Wolfram, what is the probability of a full house?" For a random five-card hand, it's apparently 1 in 694.
Smartphone and Tablet Rumors
With Mobile World Congress and iPad 3 rumors out of the way, we thought we’d share this list of rumors and news we’ve come across recently.
Google to Offer a “High-Quality” 7-Inch Tablet
This is less of a rumor since Eric Schmidt mentioned this late last year but it looks likely that we’ll see a low cost ($199 range) Android tablet sometime soon. It is expected to have a 1280 x 800 resolution (Kindle Fire has 1024 x 600) and will run Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). We wonder what will become of the soon to be acquired Motorola Xoom tablets?

Edge-to-Edge Displays are “In” this Year

We wonder if there will be a patent dispute over borderless displays after Samsung brings out their Galaxy S III and Apple brings out the iPhone 5 both of which are rumored to have edge-to-edge displays.

Speaking of the Galaxy S III…

The specs are leaking out for the forthcoming successor to the very popular Samsung Galaxy S II. It is expected to be powered by Samsung's 1.5 GHz quad-core Exynos 4412 SoC, which includes four Cortex-A9 processing cores and four ARM Mali GPU cores. The S III is expected to have a large 4.8-inch 1920 x 1080p display. Note, this is the same resolution that is on your “Full HD” HDTV. It will be running Ice Cream Sandwich.
New dock for iPhone 5?
There’s a rumor floating around that the iPhone 5 due out later this year may include a new connector. It is reported that Apple may want to change the connection to save space. In a recent article about this rumor a story was mentioned about a time when Steve Jobs dropped an iPod prototype into an aquarium and pointed out that the air bubbles coming out of it represented empty space that could be used. Personally we can’t see Apple jeopardizing a vast aftermarket industry that has cropped up around the standard connector and besides it is one of the things that has given Apple products a huge advantage over Android devices that don’t have a standard docking connector.
Who Gets to Make the Jelly Bean Google Nexus Phone?
With Ice Cream Sandwich finally starting to be deployed on smartphones and the next version of Android about to be featured at the annual Google I/O conference, it’s time to speculate on who will be awarded the privilege of making the official Android 5.0 aka Jelly Bean Google phone. Samsung would seem to be a clear favorite but HTC and LG are both lobbying hard for the contract. Will we see a Jelly Bean phone or just a bowl of Jelly Beans at Google I/O this June? Speaking of Android 5.0, rumors coming out of MWC all point to a Q4 release.
Two Windows 8 Tablets Coming From HP
New HP CEO, Meg Whitman has gone on the record saying an Intel-based Windows 8 tablet could be released around the holidays. Word is HP is developing two versions; one using tried and true Intel components and another untried Windows on Arm (WOA) version.
Six Key Things Announced at the Apple iPad Event ,
Apple held an event in San Francisco on March 7th where they announced the latest generation iPad called, oddly enough the iPad (no number three or “HD” suffix). Here’s a rundown of some of the things we liked at the announcement.
Lots More Pixels
Although the previous generation and latest generation iPad look almost identical, once you fire up the device you’ll notice a dramatic improvement in screen resolution. Despite the fact that the new iPad doesn’t have quite the number of pixels per inch as the iPhone 4/4S (326 for the iPhone and 264 for the new iPad, 132 for the iPad 2), the difference is barely perceptible.
More Muscle to Power
the Pixels

Prior to the announcement the rumor mill was rife with reports of a quad-core processor for the new iPad. As it turns out the CPUs remained dual core while the GPUs (graphic processing unit) went quad core. Apple claims this new chip can deliver 4x the performance of NVIDIAs quad-core Tegra 3 processor. This new processing power should contribute to some nice graphics performance for anything from games to video viewing.
Improved Camera
Although the front-facing camera didn’t get a makeover, the back-facing one got a boost to 5MP along with improvements to the sensor and controllers. iPhoto, the powerful photo editor has been ported to the iPad. Picture taking and editing should become more fun with the higher (2048 x 1536) resolution display and increased graphics performance.
Bigger Battery Maintains Current Uptime
Apple beefed up the battery in the new iPad but didn’t claim any big gains in battery life. Apparently the higher resolution display, added processing power and the newly added 4G LTE connectivity (on some models) added some load to the battery which the new beefed up battery compensates for.
4G LTE Wireless Connectivity
When the iPhone 4S came out last year some people were expecting the follow-on to 3G connectivity, 4G LTE which can deliver Wi-Fi-like speeds using the cell network. 4G LTE is now an option on the iPad increasing the price $130 over the Wi-Fi-only version. Creating a hot spot for other devices using 4G LTE is available (only on Verizon at the moment) but you'd better be prepared to pay for the extra data.
Siri is Not At Your Command But…
If you like Siri, the speech command virtual assistant on the iPhone you’re probably going to be disappointed that all you get of Siri on the new iPad is voice dictation.
Most Talked About Phones at Mobile World Congress ,
Mobile World Congress has become the big phone and tablet event and this year there is no shortage of new product announcements coming out of Barcelona Spain. Android is one of the hot topics this year with reports on devices that are running the current version of Android (4.0) aka Ice Cream Sandwich and speculation on products that will run the next version (5.0) aka Jelly Bean. Other hot topics this year include 4G LTE, Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) and Quad-core processors like NVIDIA’s Tegra 3. But the big question is do any of the new batch of Android phones have what it takes to keep phone buyers from buying an iPhone? Here’s a rundown of some of the more talked about phones at MWC.
HTC One Series – NVIDIA Inside But Only Outside the U.S.
HTC’s business problems notwithstanding, the HTC One Series made its debut at MWC. They phones range from small to large with the largest represented by the 4.7-inch One X. The power available under the hood of the One X is impressive. One of the One versions that won’t be available in the U.S. runs on a quad-core 1.5 GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 and a 12-core NVIDIA GPU while the U.S. One version will run the speedy dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and will offer 4G LTE. The 4.7-inch, 720p display is housed in a polycarbonate body. The One V is in the middle of the series with a 4.3-inch display. The V is powered by the same Snapdragon processor as the U.S. version of the One X. The One V is the smaller, budget version with a 3.7-inch display and less powerful processor. All of the One series phones will run Android 4.0 (ICS) along with HTC’s Sense 4.0 custom UI. The One X will only be available through AT&T starting in April while the One V is being sold by T-Mobile

LG’s Answer to HTC’s One X

The LG Optimus 4X HD offers a lot of phone in a small package. You get a 1.5 GHz Tegra 3 quad-core processor large 4.7-inch, 720p display with high pixel density IPS LCD display that has more pixels per inch than an iPhone Retina display. It will be running Android 4.0 (ICS) to boot. It’s thin and light despite a substantial 2150 mAh battery.

Samsung Galaxy Beam

Among all the tablets and phones Samsung is showing off in Barcelona, the most novel one might be their new Galaxy Beam that includes a pico projector that can throw a 50-inch image on a screen or wall. The phone also includes a 4-inch display in case you’re not interested in sharing a presentation or watching a movie on a larger screen.
Nokia Phone With 41
Mega-Pixels For Europe

Nokia has always prided themselves on delivering an impressive camera in their phones. The brand new Nokia 808 PureView camera announced at MWC offers a 41 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics. As impressive as that sounds it’s not all hardware-based mega-pixels but uses some oversampling and sub-pixel interpolation techniques to get the very large effective pixels. You’ll only get a single-core processor to help manage all those pixels and a 4-inch display to view them on but you can also shoot 1080p video using the phone’s continuous focus feature. The phone doesn’t run Android and is unlikely to be available in the U.S. but even as a camera phone you’ve got to admit it has some appeal.
Sony Minus Ericsson
The first phone in the Sony Xperia NXT series was on display at CES this year. At MWC Sony showed off two more phones in the series the Xperia P and Xperia U. All three phones have a stylish aluminum case with the antennas housed in a plastic appendage at the bottom of the phone. Unfortunately Sony couldn’t make Android 4 available for them at launch but promises they will be upgradeable soon. The S model is the top of the line with a 4.3-inch display. The P model has a 4-inch display and the U model has a lower resolution 3.5-inch display. All three models have NFC for mobile payments and other contactless functions and there’s a big gaming aspect and Playstation connection with these phones.
Huawei Claims to Have the Fastest Smartphone
Huawei is a major Chinese networking company that is making a play in the smartphone and tablet market. The Ascend D Quad runs Android 4.0 (ICS) and has a 4.5-inch 720p display offering an impressive 330 pixels per inch along with a 32 bit graphics processor which should result in a pretty good looking display. It’s powered by their own quad-core processor. They claim to be able to extend battery life using their own proprietary power management system. We haven’t seen any news on who will carry them or when they will be available.
